Ape Snake

Ape Snake, Prairie Artisan Ales, Tulsa, OK
(Saison, Rated 97)
Dark brown, almost black pour, with a tan head. Aroma has a bretted, faint barnyard funk to it. Some dark fruit along with pine and floral hops.  Taste has hops up front muted by a faint tart funkiness. Not much dark fruit in the flavor. Getting a nutty character.  Light in the mouthfeel and a dry finish. Extremely tasty and very drinkable. No way this is 7.9% abv.  Cheers!

Grand Arbor

Grand Arbor, Southern Tier Brewing Company, Lakewood, NY
(Saison, Rated 94)
Golden, yellow pour with a nice finger-thick white head. Aroma is sweet, banana, citrus, biscuity, and light funk, just like a saison should.  Taste is a little complex, earthy, yeasty, almost Belgian-like. Yeast lingers. Mild malt and clove. Maple and spice almost hidden in the background. Nice balance and a dry finish.

Zarabanda

Zarabanda, Deschutes Brewery, Bend, OR
(Saison)
Clear, golden-orange pour. Aroma is lemony tart, fruity, citrus, and clean. Taste is lemon citrus, zesty, little tartness, and a little peppery spice. Some great savory flavors with a malt body. Crisp.

Wildeman Farmhouse IPA

Wildeman Farmhouse IPA, Flying Dog Brewery, Frederick, MD
(Saison, Rated 96)
Golden orange pour with a nice white head. Aroma is wheat, spicy. Citrus taste with a spicy bitterness. Dry finish that's just a touch sour. You have the citrus hop, though light, of an IPA with a mild spiciness of a saison.

The Grand Saison

The Grand Saison, Grand Teton Brewing Company, Victor, ID
(Saison, Rated 91)

Saisons are the original Summer beers. Yes, I know it's Winter here as I write this, but that doesn't make this beer taste different. This one pours a hazy, golden yellow with a soft frothy head. Aroma of tart apple, citrus, and sweetness. Taste is light malt, fruity, and spicy. Crisp, clean finish.

Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere

Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere, Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, Dexter, MI
(Saison, Rated 97)

Cloudy golden pour with a thick white head and sour aroma. Taste is complex sourness that tart in the beginning and tart at the finish. Don't get me wrong, the sourness isn't overwhelming. It's smooth. If you are a fan of sour beers, try this one.

Four Witches Black Saison

Four Witches Black Saison, New Holland Brewing Company, Holland, MI

This black saison has a mild molasses aroma with a little banana and licorice-like flavor. Doesn't pack a lot of flavor or leave me wanting more.

Thumbprint Saison

Thumbprint Series Saison, New Glarus Brewing Company, New Glarus, WI
(Saison, Rated 94)

When New Glarus brews a beer, they do it right! This saison is part of their Thumbprint Series, which they intended to be limited release, small batch beers. Some of them, however, became so popular that they had to keep bringing them back. Back to this saison... excellent citrus aromas with both sweet and sour through the nose. The taste is exactly how I expect a farmhouse ale to be, fruity, a little bit of pepper, some sweetness, spices, and a little bit of hops. This beer is no surprise coming from a brewery that was recently ranked in the Top 10 Most Influential Craft Breweries in America. The coolest thing about this ranking is that they still only distribute in Wisconsin. My apologies to my friends who don't live here.

Nice Saison

Nice Saison, Tommyknocker Brewery, Idaho Springs, CO

Aroma is of sweet malts and floral spices. Taste is somewhat bland, sour fruitiness. An average saison...ok, a Nice Saison.

Pepe Nero

Pepe Nero, Goose Island Beer Company, Chicago, IL
(Saison, Rated 93)

One of my all-time favorite beers, from one of my favorite breweries...and that's saying a lot...because I've sampled many. Unlike more traditional saisons, this one pours dark. It's a black rye saison with amazing smoky, roasted malt combined with a pepper spice that flirts with your palate.

Rabbid Rabbit Saison Ale

Rabbid Rabbit Saison Ale, Three Floyds Brewing Company, Muenster, IN
